FAQs

Q: Do I qualify for a Federal Tax Credit?

A: The final stimulus package passed by Congress on 2/13/09 includes significant tax incentives to make home improvements to the overall energy efficiency of their homes.

The new law will allow homeowners to claim 30% of the costs (up to a $1,500 limit) for the installation of higher efficiency furnaces and boilers, air source heat pumps, central AC, and hot water heaters in tax years 2009 and 2010. The new stimulus package will also give owners of small wind systems with 100 kilowatts (kW) of capacity and less a credit for 30% of the total installed cost of the system, not to exceed $4,000. The wind credit is available for purchases 10/31/08 through 12/31/16. This tax credit will help shorten the payback period and allow homeowners to benefit from lower utility costs and increased comfort, all while consuming fewer fossil fuels.

Q: Will my new furnace qualify for the Duke Energy Smart Saver Program?

A: Yes, as long as you are installing a high efficiency model. The Duke Energy Smart Saver Program offers rebates of $200 to $400 for Ohio residential customers installing high efficiency furnaces, heat pumps, and air conditioners. Contact Duke Energy for more information.
