Summer is almost here, so it’s time to SPRING for your air conditioner’s scheduled maintenance!
EcoEnvironments understands that you may be maintaining your old AC (air conditioner) unit this spring or looking to upgrade to a new high efficiency model! Well, those of you in the market for new equipment may find this questionnaire issued on behalf of the U.S Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program very helpful!
If you are in looking for new heating or cooling equipment this spring we strongly encourage you to ask the “tough questions” listed in this Energy star “Bid Comparison Checklist” of your contractors to ensure you are getting what you pay for. Most people, including myself at one time, think that purchasing heating and cooling equipment is like purchasing a new refrigerator or stove. You pick out the one you want, plug it in and it operates the way the label tells you it will. Well, for heating and cooling equipment the installation process is just as important as the label!
Energy Star says, “When you purchase a new heating or cooling system, you expect high performance. Unfortunately, more than half of new systems in U.S. homes do not perform to their rated efficiency as a result of improper installation. In fact, improper installation can reduce performance by as much as 30%. This not only affects your utility bills, but can lead to a variety of comfort problems, including insufficient dehumidification, dust from leaking ductwork, and poor air distribution.”
